南傳法句經 老品 JARAVAGGO 第 153 與 154 偈頌
- 多生以來,我(佛陀本人)在輪迴中尋找,但找不到建造此屋舍的人 ,不斷的輪迴實在苦啊!
- 造作屋舍的人啊!我已經找到你了!不要再造作屋舍了(不要再輪迴了)!我(佛陀)所有的椽(一切煩惱欲望)都已經毀壞,所有的棟樑(無明)都已經被摧毀了!我已經證得非緣起法的涅槃了,一切貪愛都已經滅除了。 [f4]
Throught many a birth I wandered in samsara.
Seeking, but not finding, the builder of the house.
Sorrowful is birth again and again.
O House-builder! Thou are seen. Thou shalt build no house again.
All thy rafters are broken, by ridge-pole is shattered.
My mind has attained the unconditioned, achieved is the end of cravings.

I, who have been seeking the builder of this house(body), failing to attain Enlightenment which would enable me to find him, have wandered through innumerable births in samsara. To be born again and again is, indeed, dukkha!
Oh housebuilder! You are seen, you shall build no house(for me) again. All your rafters are broken, your roof-tree is destroyed. My mind has reached the Unconditioned(Nibbana); the end of craving has been attained.

Through many rounds of rebirth have I ran, looking for the house-builder,
but not finding him. Painful is repeated rebirth.
Oh, house-builder, you are seen! You will not build this house again!
All your ribs are broken; the roof is destroyed.
My mind is dissolute; I have attained the end of all cravings.

…,…,…, 重覆敘述不僅是說教記錄的特點,而且也是說教本身的特點。我們持有的版本,無疑地是把一段自由說教壓縮成為編有號碼的段落和重覆敘述的產品。佛陀所說的話一定比這些生硬的表格更為活潑柔軟得多。
