8. Uppatha Sutta
Discourse Concerning that which is Not the Way

      58. (The deva said:)

"What is called the wrong way?

What is being used up day and nigbt?

      What pollutes the celibate life?

What, without being water, has cleansing properties?"

      (The Bhagava said:)

"Attachment is called the wrong way ( for those aspiring to Nibbana and to good destinations).

Life is being used up day and night.

Woman pollutes the celibate life; living beings are attached to that pollutant.

Practice of austerity and practice of celibacy, though not water, have cleansing properties."

End of the Uppatha Sutta,

the eighth in this vagga.
